Football icon and Super Bowl victor, Jim Fahnhorst, passes away at the age of 66.

Jim Fahnhorst, a former NFL linebacker and prominent figure in the San Francisco 49ers' history, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 66. Fahnhorst spent his college football days playing for the Minnesota Golden Gophers before being selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the fourth round of the 1982 NFL Draft. Despite never playing for the Vikings, Fahnhorst later played two years in the USFL with the Chicago Blitz and Arizona Wranglers. In 1984, he joined his brother, Keith Fahnhorst, on the San Francisco 49ers. Keith, an offensive lineman, played for the 49ers from 1974 to 1987. For four seasons, the Fahnhorst brothers formed a formidable duo on the San Francisco 49ers. Jim Fahnhorst played 82 games over seven seasons, recording 232 tackles and seven interceptions. He was a member of three Super Bowl-winning teams during his time with the 49ers. In 2018, during the 49ers' training camp, Fahnhorst reflected that his move to San Francisco was a 'no-brainer.' The San Francisco 49ers announced Jim Fahnhorst's death and expressed deep sadness over his passing. Chantz Martin, a sports writer for Digital's website, will likely cover the story in more detail in the coming days. Unfortunately, we also report the passing of Dale Lolley, who chronicled the Steelers for decades. Lolley passed away at the age of 56, though the details of his passing are not currently known. Keith Fahnhorst, Jim's older brother, also passed away in 2018 at the age of 66. He played two years in the USFL for two teams before joining his brother and the San Francisco 49ers. In 1981, Jim Fahnhorst was named to the first-team All-Big Ten team. As we remember Jim Fahnhorst's contributions to the sport and the San Francisco 49ers, we extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends.
