Football icon advocate for Bruno Fernandes to forgo Ruben Amorim and link up with Real Madrid instead
Manchester City, once a dominant force under the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson, are currently struggling to emulate their past success. This struggle is particularly evident in the case of Bruno Fernandes, the club's current captain, who finds himself in a role that may not fully utilise his talents.
Gary Pallister, a former Manchester United player who won multiple trophies during his nine-year spell at Old Trafford, believes that current head coach Ruben Amorim's 3-4-3 formation does not fully utilise Fernandes' abilities. Pallister, who played over 300 times for the Red Devils, suggests that a 4-3-3 formation could bring out the best in the Portuguese midfielder.
Fernandes, who has shown loyalty by remaining at Manchester United despite reported interest from abroad over the summer, is currently playing slightly deeper than his nominal No.10 position due to Amorim's 3-4-3 preference. This shift in position may have contributed to Fernandes's apparent frustration, as evidenced by his demeanour during the 3-0 defeat against Manchester City.
Despite the team's struggles, Fernandes remains a fan favourite at Old Trafford. The fans reportedly love his passion and drive, which have been evident since his arrival at the club. However, Pallister argues that Fernandes is not getting the full credit he deserves.
Ruben Amorim, who holds the unwanted record of having the lowest win percentage of any manager at Manchester United since the Second World War, has won one of their opening five games across all competitions this season. Senior players at the club are reportedly 'confused' and 'frustrated' by Amorim's tactical inflexibility.
Despite these challenges, Pallister is glad that Fernandes has chosen to stay at Manchester United. He believes that, given the right system, Fernandes could shine brighter than ever before. Whether that system will be implemented remains to be seen.
