Football coach Sean Payton, of the Denver Broncos, discusses the prospect of coaching Tom Brady in an international flag football competition

The NFL world is buzzing with excitement as we approach the upcoming season, and beyond. Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton is set to make his mark in an unexpected arena – a flag football tournament in Saudi Arabia.

Payton, who is currently focusing on the Broncos' upcoming game against the Los Angeles Chargers this weekend, will be coaching a team in the Fanatics Flag Football Classic. The three-team tournament, scheduled for March 2023, will follow a round-robin format and will see some of the biggest names in football take to the field.

One such name is seven-time Super Bowl champion, Tom Brady. Brady, who is expected to return to football competition next year, will be playing for Sean Payton's team in the tournament. Payton himself has mentioned Brady as a potential participant, adding to the anticipation.

Joining them will be a star-studded lineup that includes Saquon Barkley, CeeDee Lamb, Christian McCaffrey, Maxx Crosby, and Rob Gronkowski, among others. Pete Carroll and Kyle Shanahan will also be coaching teams in the tournament.

The news of Payton's involvement in the tournament has sparked speculation about his potential future role with Team USA in flag football at the Olympics. While Payton has not provided any details about potential Broncos players participating in the tournament, it's clear that he is interested in understanding the 5-on-5 rules of the flag football format.

Interestingly, active NFL players have received clearance to participate in the Olympics, with flag football set to debut at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. This could potentially open up a new chapter for coaches like Payton and players like Brady in the world of international competition.

As for the Kansas City Chiefs, their season could start on a rocky note if they lose to the Philadelphia Eagles. If that happens, they would find themselves starting the 2024 NFL season 0-2. But for now, the focus remains on the upcoming flag football tournament and the exciting possibilities it holds for some of the biggest names in football.
