Football Coach Noel Rash's Task at Conner: Paying Homage to His Predecessor in Sports

New Coach for Conner High School Football Team

In the wake of the tragic passing of Dave Trosper, the beloved coach of Conner High School's football team, Noel Rash has been appointed as the new head coach. Rash, a highly respected figure in Northern Kentucky prep football, brings with him a wealth of experience and success.

Rash was the longtime head coach at Beechwood High School, where he built an outstanding legacy by winning eight state football titles1. His coaching achievements have earned him the title of Kentucky State Football Coach of the Year for the 2021-22 season by the National Federation of State High School Associations Coaches Association3.

The hiring of Rash was supported by Dave Trosper’s family, including Trosper’s wife, and Rash expressed great respect and a desire to dedicate the upcoming season to Trosper's memory1. This move is seen as a rallying point for the Conner team after the difficult summer.

Looking back, Rash's first region championship team at Beechwood in 2016 lost to Louisville St. Xavier, 1-0, in the state tournament final and finished with a 29-11 record.

Under Rash's leadership, the Conner football program, which had a record of 111-93 in 18 seasons under Trosper, is poised to continue its success. The team's top returning player, Cordian Abernathy, had a combined total of 715 rushing yards, scored seven touchdowns, and made a team-high 54 tackles as a junior two-way starter.

Meanwhile, in other sports news, Scott Schweitzer, Campbell County's baseball coach, has been inducted into the 10th Region Baseball Hall of Fame. Schweitzer's teams have won more than 300 games and four 10th Region titles in his 16 seasons as head coach of the Camels. Campbell County's baseball team won 10th Region titles in 2018, 2021, and 2022 under Schweitzer.

In basketball, Covington Catholic's team lost in the 9th Region semifinals last season and finished with a 24-9 record. The top three scorers on the team were junior guards Athens McGillis, Cash Harney, and 6-foot-5 junior forward Donovan Bradshaw. Braeden Myrick, who transferred to Covington Catholic's basketball team from Mason County in May, averaged 19.1 points as a sophomore starter on the Mason County team that reached the 10th Region semifinals last season.

The Conner principal, Andy Wyckoff, said hiring Noel Rash was a "no-brainer". With Rash at the helm, the Conner football team is looking forward to a promising future.
