Football Clubs Manchester United and Newcastle have placed bids for Benjamin Sesko, whose club Leipzig confirms experiencing 'solid interest' during this summer's transfer season.
Manchester United Secure Sesko Signing in £85 Million Deal
Benjamin Sesko has completed a move to Manchester United from RB Leipzig, with the deal reportedly worth around €85 million ($98.8 million), as officially confirmed by the Red Devils on August 9, 2025.
The transfer came after a competitive bidding process, with Newcastle United making higher financial offers than Manchester United. However, Sesko expressed a clear preference to join the Old Trafford club, which proved decisive in the agreement with RB Leipzig.
Newcastle's last bid was reportedly €82.5 million initially with fewer add-ons, while Manchester United offered a slightly lower initial fee (€76.5 million) but with higher potential add-ons, totaling around €85 million.
The transfer marks an aggressive summer spending spree by Manchester United, who have already brought in forwards Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. Sesko is expected to play a leading attacking role under manager Ruben Amorim.
Meanwhile, the potential arrival of Sesko could see Rasmus Hojlund, under-pressure striker at Manchester United, pushed towards the exit. Reports suggest that United could sell Hojlund for 35 million ($40.4) euros, less than half of what they paid to bring him from Atalanta in 2023.
Sesko, who has scored 16 times in 41 appearances at the international level, was not available for RB Leipzig's home friendly against Atalanta due to a potential transfer. The game ended in a 2-1 victory for Atalanta.
Manchester United are rebuilding after their worst top-flight campaign in 51 years and their defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League final. The club is hoping that the addition of Sesko, along with Cunha and Mbeumo, will help them regain their former glory.
