Alderete, who started his professional career at Cerro Porteno in the Paraguayan Primera Division, moved to Europe in 2019 and played for Basel, Hertha Berlin, and Valencia before joining Getafe. In his tenure at Getafe, Alderete made an impressive 99 appearances in all competitions, including 36 appearances in the 2024-25 La Liga season. His defensive strength and leadership were key factors in Getafe conceding just 39 goals during his tenure, a statistic that places them among the best in LaLiga.
Alderete's Premier League debut for Sunderland could be against West Ham, pending international clearance.
