Football club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) acquire goalkeeper Chevalier from Lille team.
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are gearing up for an exciting season as they prepare to face Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday. This comes after a successful campaign that saw the French club win both Ligue 1 and the Champions League.
In addition to their upcoming match, PSG have made a significant move in the transfer market. They have signed goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier from Ligue 1 club Lille on a contract until 2030. The transfer fee for Chevalier is estimated to be around 40 million euros ($47 million), making it a substantial investment in the club's future.
Chevalier, a 23-year-old French goalkeeper, rose rapidly through Lille’s youth academy to become their undisputed starter. He played 127 matches for Lille, including the Champions League and Ligue 1, where in 2024-2025 he posted impressive stats such as 11 clean sheets and the third-best goals conceded ratio per game in Ligue 1.
PSG see Chevalier as their new No. 1 goalkeeper, replacing Gianluigi Donnarumma, who is set to leave due to wage demands and a shift in PSG’s salary structure. Chevalier is valued for his better distribution skills and comfort with the ball at his feet, traits preferred by PSG coach Luis Enrique.
The UNFP trade union for professional footballers in France awarded Chevalier the honour of Ligue 1's goalkeeper of the year for the 2024-25 season. PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi stated that Chevalier is a "fantastic addition" to their team.
Calais-born Chevalier expressed his excitement about joining PSG, stating that he has always dreamed of playing at the highest level. He also stated that he will wear the Paris St Germain shirt with passion and ambition.
The UEFA Super Cup match is an additional competition for PSG to potentially win this year. This signing allows PSG to focus on strengthening other positions while relying on a promising, top-level goalkeeper for years to come.
