Manchester United Pursuing Barcelona Midfielder Fermín López for £60.9 Million
Manchester United is reportedly making a significant move in the transfer market, with a potential €70 million (about £60.9 million) offer for Barcelona midfielder Fermín López.
The Red Devils have shown keen interest in the 22-year-old midfielder, despite his initial reluctance to leave Barcelona. United sees Lopez as a key midfield reinforcement, aiming to bring youth and creativity to their squad.
Barcelona's management, initially reluctant to sell Fermín, seems to have changed its stance due to the club's urgent need to raise funds to register new signings and comply with La Liga's financial rules. Lopez's playing time is expected to decrease next season due to squad depth and tactical plans, which may further encourage his move.
United is reportedly ready to offer Lopez a lucrative contract, possibly doubling his current salary, to convince him to join. This transfer aligns with United's broader strategy to strengthen their squad after recent acquisitions in other positions, with a midfielder now a priority.
No official bid has yet been confirmed publicly, but reports suggest negotiations are advancing and a deal could be reached soon if the terms satisfy both parties and the player.
Meanwhile, United has also shown interest in Carlos Baleba from Brighton. However, no further developments have been reported in this regard.
In other news, Everton has signed Jack Grealish from Manchester City on loan for the 2025/26 season. This move could provide a fresh dynamic for the Toffees' attack.
It's worth noting that Lopez renewed his contract with Barcelona less than a year ago, but his future at the club remains uncertain due to his lack of guaranteed playing time under Hansi Flick.
Since the start of the summer transfer window, United has already spent over £200 million on transfers. The potential acquisition of Lopez would add to this total.
