Football club Everton reveals fresh name for its stadium, sparking anger amongst supporters who perceive it as an April Fool's Day prank.

The new stomping ground for the Toffees has been officially named as the Hill Dickinson Stadium, following a deal struck for the naming rights. Everton, who have spent 133 years at Goodison Park, will bid farewell to their old home with a match against Southampton on Sunday. Beginning August, the team will move to the 52,888-seater Bramley-Moore Dock ground.

The new name, however, hasn't gone down too well with fans on social media looking less than enthused. One fan quipped, "April Fools Day was last month lads." Another replied, "This has to be a joke." A third fan added, "Nah seriously what a terrible name."

Supporters seem to be unimpressed with the corporate name change, preferring something with a stronger tie to the club's history and identity. The deal with law firm Hill Dickinson may not necessarily resonate with the local community, and some fans have expressed their discontent, deeming it "a terrible name." A frustrated fan went as far as to message, "Seriously. Are you fucking joking? They best be paying 500m a season for us to sound that fucking stupid."

One fan simply stated, "Ruined the whole stadium," while another commented, "Erm. What the fuck is this?" Another fan stated, "Late April fool...please."

While the new name may not sit well with some fans, keep in mind that this partnership is about more than just branding. It symbolizes a long-term commitment to progress, excellence, and the regeneration of the city. This partnership goes beyond the name, representing a shared vision for the club's future.

From the start of next season, Everton Women will play their home matches at the historical Goodison Park, which will continue to operate beyond the men's team's move to the new arena. The stadium's capacity will be reduced, and sections of the stands will be reconfigured for a more intimate feel. Currently, Brian Sorenson's side host fixtures at Walton Hall Park, which has a capacity of around 2,200 fans[1][2].

It was initially planned for the iconic venue to be replaced by houses, shops, and a care home, but those plans have been scrapped by the club[1].

  1. The fans on social media appear disappointed with the new stadium name, Hill Dickinson Stadium, as they prefer a name with a stronger historical connection to the club.
  2. Some supporters have voiced their disapproval of the partnership, calling the name "terrible" and suggesting it "doesn't resonate" with the local community.
  3. Despite the controversy surrounding the name, the partnership with law firm Hill Dickinson represents a long-term commitment to progress and excellence, and goes beyond mere branding for the future of the club.
