Football association UEFA imposes a ten-year ban on Montenegrin team FK Arsenal Tivat for involvement in match-fixing.

In a significant move, European football's governing body, UEFA, has handed down a 10-year ban to Montenegrin club FK Arsenal Tivat from participating in all UEFA club competitions, including the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League. The ban, which is one of the longest in UEFA history, follows an investigation into match-fixing allegations during FK Arsenal Tivat's Conference League qualifying tie with Alashkert FC in July 2023.

The decision was made by UEFA's Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) after finding the club and its officials guilty of violating UEFA's Disciplinary Regulations, specifically Articles 11 and 12, which address general principles of conduct and match-fixing, respectively. Two players from FK Arsenal Tivat have also been suspended for a period of 10 years.

The ban stems from the matches against Alashkert FC, with a notable 6-1 defeat in the second leg of the qualifiers that raised suspicions. The club was also fined €500,000, equivalent to approximately $578,400, by UEFA.

The investigation, conducted by CEDB, found that the club and its officials had engaged in activities contrary to the principles of fair play and sporting integrity. The ban will keep FK Arsenal Tivat out of UEFA competitions until at least the 2034/35 season.

UEFA has requested FIFA to extend the ban on FK Arsenal Tivat to worldwide competitions, which currently runs till the end of the 2034-35 season. The Montenegrin First League club, FK Arsenal Tivat, has also been subjected to these penalties as a result of the match-fixing allegations.

It is important to note that the match-fixing allegations have not been publicly confirmed by FK Arsenal Tivat. Reuters has reached out to the club for comment regarding the ban.

This decision serves as a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining fair play and sporting integrity in football. It also underscores UEFA's commitment to upholding the highest standards of conduct in its competitions.

Sports enthusiasts may find the European leagues disheartened by the 10-year ban handed to Montenegrin club FK Arsenal Tivat for violating UEFA's Disciplinary Regulations related to match-fixing, thus hindering their participation in prominent competitions such as the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League. FK Arsenal Tivat's involvement in activities contrary to fair play and sporting integrity led UEFA to levy a fine and extend the ban even to worldwide sports competitions.
