Footage unveils racial slur shouted during Cincinnati's violent assault incident
In the heart of downtown Cincinnati last Friday night, a violent brawl erupted, leaving six individuals injured and shaking the city. The incident, captured on viral video, has sparked an intense investigation by the DOJ and FBI, with six suspects now facing charges.
The brawl, which has been condemned by city officials, saw four individuals - Jermaine Matthews, Montianez Merriweather, Dekyra Vernon, and Dominique Kittle - arrested and charged. Jermaine Matthews is facing multiple assault charges, including two counts of felonious assault, a misdemeanor assault, and aggravated riot. Merriweather and Vernon are charged with felonious assault, aggravated riot, and assault, while Kittle is charged with assault and aggravated riot.
A fifth suspect, Patrick Rosemond, was arrested in Georgia and faces two counts of felonious assault and aggravated riot. He is currently undergoing extradition back to Cincinnati. The city police are still actively seeking the remaining individuals involved.
One of the victims, a woman named Holly, was knocked unconscious during the brawl and is currently recovering from severe brain trauma and ongoing medical issues related to the attack.
Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Theetge has expressed concern over the delay in police response, as only one person called 911 during the incident. She emphasized the importance of preserving the investigation's integrity and promised that additional footage, including body camera video, would be released in due course.
The city has faced criticism for its handling of the brawl, with Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval returning early from vacation to address the situation. Pureval stated there is no place for violent crime in Cincinnati and has promised a thorough investigation and action against those responsible.
However, the city councilwoman Victoria Parks has faced public scrutiny for her comment that the victims "begged for that beat down!" Parks has since apologized for her insensitive remark.
Witness Jay Black, who captured footage of the brawl, claimed to have seen individuals using racial slurs during the incident. He also claimed to have seen someone who was knocked to the ground get up and continue fighting. Jermaine Matthews' bond was initially set at $100,000, but was increased to $270,000 after new charges.
As the investigation continues, the city of Cincinnati stands united in condemning the violence and seeking justice for the victims. The charges focus mainly on felonious assault and aggravated riot related to the violent brawl that took place on July 26, 2025, in downtown Cincinnati.
