India Shines at U-19 Asian Boxing Championship

The U-19 Asian Boxing Championship in Bangkok, Thailand, on August 8, 2025, saw a significant number of Indian boxers advance to the finals. A total of ten Indian boxers, seven women and three men, emerged victorious in their semi-final bouts, securing their places in the final. Notable among these were Nisha (54kg), Muskan (57kg), Vini (60kg), Nisha (65kg), Aarti Kumari (75kg), Parchi Tokas (80+kg), Mausam Suhag (65kg), Rahul Kundu (75kg), Hemant Sangwan (90kg), and Kritika (80kg), who had a direct entry into the final.

In the final results, India finished second overall with a total of 14 medals: 3 gold, 7 silver, and 4 bronze medals. The gold medalists from the U-19 category included Nisha (women's 54kg), Muskan (women's 57kg), and Rahul (men's 75kg). Despite winning the highest total number of medals, India finished behind Uzbekistan, who had more gold medals (7 golds).

Meanwhile, in the U-22 category, the Indian team finished in fourth place with 1 gold, 4 silver, and 8 bronze medals. Ritika secured the gold in the women's 80+kg division on the final day.

Elsewhere in the competition, Kazakhstan also made a strong showing. Thirteen boxers from Kazakhstan participated in the semi-finals, including six boys and seven girls. Notable Kazakhstan boxers who advanced to the finals include Zaneel Imantaeva (54 kg), Aiyazhan Ermek (57 kg), Akbota Yesimbekova (65 kg), Aym Tankibaeva (51 kg), Alina Kudaibbergenova (60 kg), Sabina Zaksylik (80+ kg), and Nursultan Shildebay, who won bronze in the 75 kg category. Decisive bouts for boxers up to 22 years old are scheduled for August 11.

On a separate note, Elena Rybakina, a Kazakhstani tennis player, returned to the top 10 of the WTA world rankings after the tournament in Montreal.

The finals of the U-19 age category boxing tournament will take place on August 10, and the decisive bouts for boxers up to 22 years old are scheduled for August 11, bringing the tournament to its exciting conclusion.

Amidst the U-19 Asian Boxing Championship, Indian boxers made their mark in sports beyond the ring. The sports world also witnessed Kazakhstan's impressive display, particularly in the boxing tournament, with several Kazakhstan boxers advancing to the finals.
