Following the scorching heat wave: relief from the heat on the horizon
After the peak of the heatwave in early to mid-August 2025, Germany can expect a change in weather conditions for the remainder of the month. Temperatures will remain warm but slightly cooler than peak heatwave days, with daytime highs generally between 28°C and 32°C and night temperatures around 14°C to 18°C.
Meteorologist Adrian Leyser Sturm predicts a cold front will displace the heat from Germany over the weekend, bringing a respite from the intense heat. The heatwave will be over in many places by Saturday, although isolated heavy thunderstorms are forecast for the southeast.
During the day, temperatures will range between 25 and 30 degrees across most of the country, except for a slightly warmer southwest. On Saturday, temperatures in the north will be between 20 and 25 degrees, while the southwest will see temperatures up to 31 to 37 degrees. Overnight, temperatures will drop to between 8 and 16 degrees.
Rainfall is expected to be below normal, with only about 3–5 days of rain amounting to 30–50 mm overall for the month. The weather is predominantly sunny and dry, raising concerns for wildfire hazards in some dry areas of Germany and Central Europe. Occasional local thunderstorms may occur but will not largely disrupt the dry spell.
On Friday, more cumulus clouds will form, and isolated heavy thunderstorms may occur from midday. Heavy rain, hail, and gusty winds might occur during these storms. On Thursday afternoon and evening, there will be isolated heat thunderstorms, especially over the mountains.
Meteorologist Leyser Sturm predicts the warm, not too hot, and sunny summer weather will continue until next week. Individual thunderstorms will move in from the west and northwest on Thursday morning. On Saturday, showers and isolated heavy thunderstorms are forecast for the southeast.
