The Würzburger Kickers' Home Games In Limbo: Empty Stands Amid Pyro Incidents

Following Pyro Events: Wurzburg Kickers Perform in an Emptied Stadium - Following the pyro mishap, Würzburg kickers perform before vacant seats.

In the fallout from the pyrotechnics incidents at the Regionalliga match between 1. FC Schweinfurt and Würzburger Kickers, the Kickers will temporarily play their home games without fans in attendance. The Bavarian Football Association (BFV) has asserted that while appeals against this decision are possible, they won't halt the proceedings. The BFV intends to make a strong statement with this spectators ban.

The finale of the Schweinfurt's Sachs Stadium game, resulting in a 2:1 victory for the hosts and their ascent to the 3rd football league, was marred by delays due to chaotic scenes. Supporters from the Würzburger block ignited pyrotechnics and tossed off fireworks during the tumultuous last minutes of the game.

Point deduction and stadium ban under consideration

The BFV's legal counsel indicated that penalties such as point deductions and excluding the public could be under consideration during the main proceedings. They denounced the incidents as severe misconduct by the away team's supporters and a significant violation of stadium protocols.

Kickers challenge spectator ban

The Würzburger Kickers have vowed to appeal against the ban on spectators, arguing that the measures already implemented by the club would have ensured a secure and sensible course of the home game, and that collective penalties seem inappropriate as they also affect fans who consistently exhibit exemplary behavior.

The association acknowledges that the absence of spectators will disproportionately burden peaceful supporters; however, they see this as the only viable means to deliver a clear message and to protect those very individuals.

The Würzburger Kickers publicly distanced themselves from the pyro incidents orchestrated by their own fans, stating that they will do everything within their power to identify the culprits and hold them accountable. The actions were deemed "absolutely unacceptable" and "crossing every boundary."
