After a series of sweltering days, the German Weather Service (DWD) has forecast a cooling trend accompanied by potential severe weather for Baden-Württemberg. The region has been experiencing temperatures reaching up to 40°C, with Stuttgart recording around 33°C, and warnings of even higher temperatures during the peak heat days.

Following this extreme heat, the DWD has issued warnings for stormy and turbulent weather, particularly for southern Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. This includes expectations for heavy rain, large hailstones, strong squalls, and winds up to 100 km/h. A yellow weather warning is currently active for these regions, signaling heightened risk but not the most severe level.

The stormy, cooler weather is expected to follow the intense heat, providing some relief from the scorching temperatures but bringing with it the hazard of sudden storms and gusty winds that could impact outdoor activities and transport. Residents should remain alert for weather updates due to the risk of sudden turbulent storms and take precautions accordingly.

In Baden-Württemberg, specific locations such as Sipplingen near Lake Constance have already experienced heat storms on July 1st, indicating localized severe weather incidents following the heat.

Preliminary DWD figures show that the hottest day of the year so far in the southwest was recorded in Waghäusel-Kirrlach (district of Karlsruhe), with temperatures reaching 38.7°C. However, the DWD expert stated that the weather will be cooler than before, but not really cool. In some places in the southwest, low double-digit values are possible at night.

As the cooling period continues, there will be no more tropical nights. The temperatures are expected to drop again, initially remaining below 30°C. After the hottest day in Baden-Württemberg, including areas such as Offenbach, Stuttgart, and Waghäusel-Kirrlach, residents are advised to stay informed about the weather conditions and take necessary precautions, especially during the expected severe weather events.

The Commission is proposing to extend the period of validity of the weather-forecasting agreement to cover the severe weather events in Baden-Württemberg, following the intense heat and potential storms the region is anticipating. Despite the cooling trend, the weather in Baden-Württemberg will still be turbulent, with heavy rain, large hailstones, strong squalls, and winds up to 100 km/h predicted.
