Hittin' the Pavement: "Sneaks" Treads in the Wake of "Cars" and "Toy Story"

Following in the footsteps of films like "Cars" and "Toy Story", a new animated movie hits the big screen. - Following the path set by "Cars" and "Toy Story," another animated feature film is produced.

Step into a whimsical world where shoes aren't just foot-coverings, but characters with personalities! Since 1988, animated footwear has had a special place in our hearts - be it the ill-fated cartoon shoe in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" - thankfully, you won't find anything like that in "Sneaks"! This family-friendly adventure is set to stride into living rooms via Sky and streaming service Wow, starting May 9th.

A Pair to Remember - The Plot Unravels

The Alchemy24s siblings Ty and Maxine are the epitome of opulence. Yet, beneath their shiny exteriors, they yearn for very different things. Self-indulgent Ty finds contentment in being adored, while Maxine, the ambitious one, dreams of becoming the go-to kicks for a rising basketball star.

Edson, a humble chap with hoop dreams, wins Ty and his sister in a contest. But joy rarely lasts forever - a ruthless sneaker collector snatches the duo, aiming to add them to his personal hoard. During the heist, Ty and Maxine are split up, leaving each to live out the other's dream. Maxine finds herself trapped in the collector's gilded cage, while Ty braves the gritty streets of Manhattan.

Crafted with Care - With a Message to Spare

Animating objects has been the bread and butter of animated films since time immemorial. "Toy Story", a pioneer in computer animation, breathed life into toys thirty years ago. "Cars" followed suit with automobiles in 2006. "Sneaks" picks up the torch and employs its personified characters to weave thought-provoking messages for kids and their grown-ups too.

Lessons such as a cushioned life not guaranteeing happiness, or making friends who appear when you step outside your comfort zone, are subtly woven into the narrative. Hollywood A-listers Anthony Mackie, Laurence Fishburne, and Martin Lawrence lend their voices in the English dub. Over in Germany, Annika Preil and Wilson Gonzalez Ochsenknecht step into the roles.

A Nod to Sneaker Culture

"Sneaks" also pays homage to the eccentric world of US sneaker culture, with its bizarre heights exemplified last year when a Michael Jordan-signed set of sneakers sold for a staggering eight million dollars! The film pokes fun at the absurdity without offending fervent collectors.

Catch "Sneaks" from May 9th - it'll be streaming on Wow or airing on Sky Cinema Premiere at 8:15 PM.
