Following the McKellars' Footsteps: Latest Developments in Their Sphere

Get ready for a whirlwind tour of the McKellars, a famed rowing clan that's stirring up the sporting world!

Hailing from the vibrant rowing community, the McKellars have rowed for more than four decades and their tale begins on Scotland's west coast. Heading into the British Rowing Masters Championships, this dynamic duo, Trish and Quintin McKellar, are fired up! Quintin intended to compete in the Open G pair, as well as the Mixed G quad and eight, whilst Trish has her own women's events, and they're hoping for an impressive win.

With their kidsRowan, Ruth, Ross, and Rebeccaalso set to race, the McKellars are looking forward to a united front on the water. The last time they shared the boat was during the Vesta International Masters Head of The River Race in London, where their star-studded crew comprised Trish, Quintin, the four kids, two sons-in-law, and even Rebecca—four months postpartum!

"It was quite the gathering, and we had great fun. It was a motivating experience. Even the ones who hadn't rowed in a while really enjoyed it," shared an elated Trish, cheerfully admitting they'd need to train more if they wished to repeat the same next year.

The McKellars might have stepped off the waters briefly, but their love for rowing has remained. They've rowed with and against their kids throughout their careers, creating unforgettable memories with various combinations—generational doubles and mother/daughter, and father/son partnerships.

Rowing brought Quintin and Trish together at Glasgow University, with Quintin learning about the sport at Castle Semple Rowing Club before moving up to row in the Clyde while studying Veterinary Medicine. Trish, who picked up the sport while at school, joined Aberdeen University Boat Club before heading back to Glasgow for her post-graduate studies, where she met Quintin.

These powerhouse parents later returned to the sport, training and racing out of Broxbourne Rowing Club. Even though their kids won't be racing alongside them during this year's British Rowing Masters Championships, they'll still be filling the air with the McKellars' legendary spirit. In fact, Trish and Quintin will be part of a Mixed quad race, with a boat named after their daughter!
