Following the Kirk assassination, U.S. authorities have decided to terminate Jimmy Kimmel's television program.

In a surprising turn of events, the late-night television landscape has been shaken by a series of comments made by Jimmy Kimmel, host of "Jimmy Kimmel Live!", regarding the tragic shooting of Charlie Kirk, a prominent figure on the American right and a close ally of former President Donald Trump.

Kirk, known for his influence in Trump's efforts to win over young voters, was shot dead on September 10 at Utah Valley University. In his show, Kimmel mocked the attempts by supporters of the "Make America Great Again" movement to distance the suspected killer from their scene.

The comments caught the attention of Brendan Carr, the head of the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC), who expressed outrage, accusing Kimmel of being disrespectful. Carr, appointed by Trump, called for action against the show, representing the FCC's regulatory authority.

In response, ABC temporarily halted the broadcast of Jimmy Kimmel's show, and Nexstar, a partner network, stated that it does not agree with Kimmel's comments and will replace the show with other programs.

Trump welcomed the decision, calling it "great news for America." He also attacked other late-night hosts like Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers, labelling them "two total failures." Trump had been a frequent target of satirical remarks by Kimmel and other late-night hosts.

Interestingly, this is not the first time Trump has targeted Kimmel. In the summer, Trump stated "You're next" after the announced end of Stephen Colbert's show on CBS. Colbert, who received an Emmy before his show ended, used the opportunity to take a jab at the former president.

However, recent events suggest that satirists critical of Trump are being systematically put under pressure. The end of Colbert's show was initially attributed to economic reasons, but the circumstances surrounding Kimmel's comments add a new dimension to this narrative.

On September 15, Kimmel addressed the issue in his show, expressing his condolences to the victim's family and then tackling the topic in his usual humorous and critical manner. It remains to be seen how this incident will influence the future of late-night television and the boundaries of free speech.
