Following the explosion of a package in Leipzig/Halle, 15 individuals are accused in Lithuania

In a significant development, Lithuanian authorities have charged a group of individuals with 'terrorist offenses' in connection with a series of parcel fires that occurred in Europe last year. The incidents, which included an explosion at a DHL logistics centre in Leipzig, Germany, have been under investigation for several months.

The investigation, which involved more than 30 searches in Lithuania, Poland, Latvia, and Estonia, has revealed that the suspects used shipping companies DHL and DPD to send four parcels containing explosives hidden in cosmetic containers from the Lithuanian capital to various European countries, including Germany, Poland, and the UK.

One of the parcels sent by the Lithuanian suspects caused a fire at the DHL logistics centre at Leipzig/Halle Airport in July 2024. Another parcel, sent by DHL plane from Vilnius to the UK, also contained an explosive device. Two other parcels were sent by DPD truck to Poland.

Three of the 15 suspects have an international arrest warrant issued against them. However, the search results do not provide any information or names regarding suspected Russian nationals linked to the Russian Federation's military intelligence department and arrested in connection with the burned packages in Europe, as stated by the Vilnius General Prosecutor's Office.

The suspects arrested in Lithuania are accused of sending parcels with homemade explosives to various European countries on behalf of the Russian intelligence service. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to bring all those involved to justice.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and cooperation in the fight against terrorism. As the investigation continues, we will keep you updated on any new developments.
