New Left-Wing Political Party Faces Internal Strife

A new political party, tentatively named "Your Party," has been proposed by Coventry South MP Zarah Sultana and former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn. However, the party is currently embroiled in controversy, with reports of internal strife and the potential for a split.

The party's inception was marked by an email invitation to sign up for a membership portal, which was sent out on Wednesday. The email was signed by five Labour exiles, but it has been labelled a "false membership system" by Jeremy Corbyn in a tweet. Zarah Sultana responded to Corbyn's statement, calling it a "sexist boys club."

The planned first conference for the party is scheduled for November, although the date and location remain unconfirmed. Further details about the party's policies and structure may be set out at the conference.

The motivation for starting the new party includes government actions such as scrapping winter fuel payments for pensioners, cuts for disabled people, and the two-child benefit cap. The party's policies include more council housing, an end to child poverty, an end to homelessness, an end to inequality, rich people paying more tax, and an end to the selling of arms to "regimes that bomb innocent people." Action in support of Palestine is also thought to be high on the agenda for the new party.

The party's leadership structure is intended to be democratic, with one member having one vote. Zarah Sultana has expressed her desire to co-lead with Jeremy Corbyn, but the final decision will be made by the members.

Possible names for the party include The Left, The Left Party, The People's Party, Arise, and The Collective, according to YouGov. However, the name of the political party is currently unclear, with both "Your Party" and "yourparty.uk" being mentioned, but not officially registered with the Electoral Commission.

The new left-wing direction of the Green Party under new leader Zack Polanski could potentially take votes away from the proposed political party. Despite the challenges, Zarah Sultana announced her departure from Labour to start the new party with Jeremy Corbyn in early July.

As the party prepares for its inaugural conference, it remains to be seen how the internal strife will impact its future and whether it will be able to unite and present a united front to the British public.
