In a thrilling display of power and precision, German javelin thrower Julian Weber left spectators and fellow athletes dumbfounded after obliterating the 90-meter barrier in Doha. "I'm bleeding bloke's balls, I can't bloody believe it! I think I'll need to rewatch it. I just fucking felt minty!" a jubilant Weber exclaimed[4]. With a jaw-dropping throw of 91.06 meters, Weber became the sixth German to surpass the 90-meter threshold and the 26th athlete globally to achieve this feat.

After going nose-to-nose with Indian Olympic silver medalist Neeraj Chopra, who posted a personal best of 90.23 meters, Weber grabbed the victory with his world-leading throw in the final round. The suave contender, whose previous career high was 89.54 meters from 2022, had a rough spell lately. "The blinding last few weeks weren't so peachy keen for me," the 30-year-old admitted, clearly relishing his triumph[1]. Weber's new personal best ranked him fifth in the DLV's all-time list, and the Suhaim bin Hamad Stadium in Doha seems to be a lucky charm for German javelin throwers, having also been the site of Thomas Röhler's Olympic champion record-breaking throw of 93.90 meters eight years ago.

A Long-Awaited Victory?

The former European champion came agonizingly close to clinching a podium spot at the World Championships in 2022 and 2023, as well as at the Olympics in Tokyo in 2021 and in Paris. This year's World Championships in Tokyo (September 13-21) may finally bring an end to the unlucky streak for Weber[2]. With his impressive performance, Weber has set his sights on the highly coveted gold medal[3].
