After saying farewell to Marc Oliver Kempf, Hertha BSC is bringing back a familiar face to reinforce their defense. Local Berliner and Academy product John Anthony Brooks has signed a new contract until 2026. Hertha announced the news, eager to fill the void left by Kempf's departure to Italy.
Sporting director Benjamin Weber praised Brooks, highlighting his hometown roots, experience, and strength in the air and tackling. Brooks spent years at Hertha's youth academy and played for the main team between 2011 and 2017. Following stints at TSG Hoffenheim, VfL Wolfsburg, and Benfica Lisbon, Brooks' contract was not renewed this summer.
With the addition of Brooks, Hertha expects an immediate boost to their central defense. The Berlin-born defender's return can be seen as both a homecoming and a fresh injection of leadership and skill to the team.
Worth Noting:
John Anthony Brooks currently sits on the sidelines due to injury and no return date has been announced as of now. Meanwhile, Marc Oliver Kempf remains active with Hertha BSC and no recent transfer rumors surround him.
