Trekking Through "Sneaks" - A New Shoe Game in Town
Follow-up of 'Cars' and 'Toy Story' Animation Success Stories - Following in the footsteps of "Cars" and "Toy Story", another animated feature film is being developed.
You've heart-wrenched over cartoon rabbits, fallen for love with painted cars, and now, it's time to root for some sentient sneakers. Yes, you heard that right! The magical world of living footwear takes center stage in the fresh, family-friendly film "Sneaks." Premiering May 9th across Sky and streaming service Wow, this Sky original is set to step into your living room.
Lace Up and Go: What's it all about?
Luxury duo Ty and Maxine, two Alchemy24s sneakers, have had a pretty cushioned life, enjoying fame and adoration. Although they look like twins, they harbor different dreams. Ty, unfortunately drenched in privilege, desires endless admiration in a cloud of cotton. Maxine, on the other hand, dreams of stepping onto the foot of a rising basketball star - dribbling for victory.
But when fortune appears to smile on Maxine, with a humble boy named Edson winning their raffle, things quickly take a sour turn. A ruthless sneaker collector descends, snatching the sneakers and eying them for his personal collection. During the unfair theft, Ty and Maxine are torn apart, only to find themselves living out each other's dreams: Maxine suddenly finds herself trapped in the golden cage of the sneaker collector, while Ty navigates the rough and tumble streets of bustling Manhattan.
Crafted for a purpose, with a lesson to hand out
Chronicles of animated life have captivated audiences since the dawn of animation. "Toy Story" revealed the life within toys in 1995, while "Cars" brought cars to life a decade later in 2006. "Sneaks," being the new kid on the block, is a worthy inheritor, using its personified characters to dish out life lessons. For example, that a privileged life may not always equal happiness or that true friends may pop up when you ditch your comfort zone.
The English version delivers these nuggets of wisdom with the help of A-list celebrities like Anthony Mackie, Laurence Fishburne, and Martin Lawrence, while Annika Preil and Wilson Gonzalez Ochsenknecht lend their voices in the German dub.
A nod to collector mania
While the film, with its humorous take on the ridiculous side of sneaker culture, is a charming ode to the craze surrounding US sneakers, it steers clear of criticizing the dedicated collectors. Last year alone, a set of basketball legend Michael Jordan's shoes sold for close to eight million dollars[1], and "Sneaks" pokes gentle fun at this madness without stepping on any collectors' toes.
Mark your calendars for May 9th to catch "Sneaks": The movie will be available on demand via streaming service Wow or air at 8:15 PM on Sky Cinema Premiere.
