Following her whirlwind of doctoral studies, Cathy Hummels' book ventures have hit a roadblock.
The drama surrounding Sebastian Fischer's asserted PhD credentials has led to a halt in Cathy Hummels' book collaboration with Südwest-Verlag, as confirmed by Hummels' lawyer Stefan Ventroni. Ventroni disclosed that Südwest-Verlag, Hummels, and Fischer had mutually decided against proceeding with their planned book together after initial reports from Bild newspaper suggested the cancellation of the project.
Fischer, a medical doctor and brother to social media influencer Cathy Hummels, had planned a book titled "Emerging from the Shadows - Your Path to Overcoming Depression" with her. However, Fischer's doctoral title appeared on a published book cover, despite lacking such qualification.
Upon Bild's exposé, Südwest-Verlag removed the promotional cover, citing lack of knowledge about Fischer's uncompleted dissertation until recently. "We had no grounds to doubt Fischer's dissertation completion until a few weeks ago. However, the current media scrutiny and inquiry to Mr. Fischer revealed that he currently holds no PhD title. Consequently, we withdrew the preliminary cover from our systems," Südwest-Verlag declared .
Cathy Hummels herself had referred to her brother as "doctor" on Instagram in 2018. She clarified in a subsequent press statement that she had not intentionally misled anyone by using the title. "I referred to my brother as 'doctor' on Instagram because, like many people, I perceived all doctors as possessing that title. I did not intend to deceive anyone, merely acknowledging his profession. I have always viewed 'doctor' and 'PhD' interchangeably for a professional title," she explained .
Ventroni remained cryptic about what led to the cancellation of book plans with Südwest-Verlag, merely stating, "Please bear in mind that we won't be providing any further details."
Due to the controversy surrounding Sebastian Fischer's falsified PhD credentials, the publication of Cathy Hummels' book with Top News publisher Südwest-Verlag has been postponed. Fischer's book, originally titled "Emerging from the Shadows - Your Path to Overcoming Depression," was slated for co-authorship by Hummels, but the controversy surrounding Fischer's fabricated PhD has stalled its release.
