Following an AfD gathering: Ban on large-scale events at Hugenottenhalle for the party
Following the recent protests against a campaign event held at the Huguenot Hall by the AfD party, the town of Neu-Isenburg has taken steps to revise the rental ordinance for the venue.
The revision aims to ensure that events held at Huguenot Hall do not trigger protests or conflict within the community, while balancing freedom of assembly with maintaining public order.
Key details of the revised ordinance include:
- Stricter conditions on event rentals: The town has imposed new regulations to control the use of Huguenot Hall for political events, especially those that might provoke public unrest or protests.
- Restrictions on large party events: The ordinance specifically affects large, private party events, imposing tighter guidelines on capacity limits, security requirements, and possibly the content or purpose of the event to prevent disturbances.
- Enhanced approval process: Event organisers must now go through a more rigorous approval process, which may include providing detailed security plans and assurances that the event will not lead to disruptions or public safety risks.
- Focus on community safety and public order: The main goal of the revision is to ensure that events held at Huguenot Hall do not trigger protests or conflict within the community.
Mayor Dirk Gene Hagelstein thanked numerous citizens for their suggestions and criticism regarding the rental of the Huguenot Hall, and expressed gratitude for the largely peaceful behaviour of the protesters during the AfD campaign event on 1st February. He also thanked the emergency services, fire department, and police for their efforts during the protests.
The change to the rental ordinance for the Huguenot Hall is not yet final and is subject to the city council's decision. A legal assessment is currently being conducted regarding the implementation of this change, and the final decision will be made by the city council.
