Following a prolonged period of wind and rain, the sun emerged.
In the scenic town of Harburg, vast puddles have formed on meadows and fields, as well as in low-lying forest areas due to heavy precipitation over the past few weeks. The ground, unable to absorb the excess water, has been struggling to cope.
After a weekend of constant wind and rain, the weather took a brief respite on Monday. The sun peeked out from behind the clouds in the afternoon, offering a rare sight in Harburg Town and Country. However, the calm was short-lived as Tuesday brought mostly cloudy skies.
The Karl-Kaus-Stiftung for Animals and Nature has been actively working in Harburg to address the water accumulation in open areas. They have been rewetting parts, removing overgrowth, and restoring ditches and sluices. This project, funded by the foundation's own resources and supported by the Stade district from the nature conservation fund, aims to alleviate the flooding issue.
Despite the brief reprieve, the heavy rainfall has caused problems with water absorption in the ground, and the weather in Harburg remains changeable over the next few days. Temperatures will remain in the single digits, and while the sun is making an appearance on Tuesday, it is a reminder that spring has not yet arrived.
As the community continues to deal with the aftermath of the heavy rain, the Karl-Kaus-Stiftung's efforts are a beacon of hope for a drier future in Harburg.
