Follow-up to "The Devil Wears Prada": Stanley Tucci Reappears, Accompanied by His Posh Wardrobe
In the highly anticipated sequel to the iconic 2006 film, "The Devil Wears Prada 2", costume designer Molly Rogers takes the reins from Patricia Field, who was nominated for an Oscar for her work on the original movie.
Rogers, a protegeé of Field, has brought a fresh perspective to the costume design for the sequel. Her approach captures a modern 2025 fashion sensibility while maintaining the characters' established style status. She uses a mix of high-end designer pieces and casual elements reflecting current insider fashion, which conveys a more realistic balance between luxury and everyday wear than the fantasy-level wardrobe in the original film.
The original film’s costumes, designed by Field, leaned heavily into aspirational fashion moments that felt very exclusive and somewhat fantastical for the characters. In contrast, the sequel’s costumes reflect the characters' evolution, such as Andy Sachs' upgraded status in media and the nuanced way people with access to high fashion really dress now, mixing designer splurges with relaxed pieces.
Stanley Tucci, reprising his role as Nigel Kipling, is seen wearing a variety of power-clashed suits, including a checkered suit spotted in an earlier production photo from July 23. Kipling is also seen carrying a Berluti leather briefcase and wearing a chunky silver ring with a large, ovular crimson stone, an underratedly eye-catching costume piece from the original film.
Anne Hathaway's character, Andy Sachs, is present in the latest set images, and Meryl Streep returns as Miranda Priestly. The filming for "The Devil Wears Prada 2" is currently underway in New York City.
In addition to her work on the sequel, Molly Rogers co-designs the costumes for "And Just Like That...", the "Sex and the City" reboot series on HBO Max. It's unclear if Nigel Kipling has remained consistently at Runway, the fictional fashion glossy, for the last two decades.
Patricia Field, who was instrumental in Field's celebrated status in the industry, is known for her work on "Sex and the City" and "Emily in Paris", in addition to "The Devil Wears Prada". Stanley Tucci, in real life, is a three-piece-suit-wearing bon vivant.
