Follow-up film in the F1 series

In the world of cinema and motorsport, the Formula 1 film "F1" has made a significant impact. Starring Brad Pitt as an aging racing driver and directed by Joseph Kosinski, who is also known for "Top Gun: Maverick," the film had a successful cinema debut, topping the German charts just a week after its release.

Lewis Hamilton, a four-time Formula 1 world champion and the film's co-producer, has played a pivotal role in the production. As an executive producer and consultant, he has provided valuable insights and tips for the script. However, when it comes to the question of a sequel, Hamilton is advocating for a more measured approach.

Speaking ahead of the British Grand Prix in early July 2025, Hamilton emphasised that the film took four years to make and involved significant effort and personal sacrifice, especially for director Joseph Kosinski. He believes it is important to let the original movie "simmer" and enjoy its success rather than quickly making a follow-up. Hamilton warned that rushing into a sequel "would be the worst thing we probably could do" and noted that most sequels tend to be inferior to the original.

Meanwhile, Kosinski and Apple Studios have indicated that a sequel is being considered following the strong box-office debut of "F1," although no official confirmation has been made yet. Kosinski mentioned that the story was left open-ended to allow for future installments and expressed enthusiasm about continuing the story, but ultimately left the decision up to the audience and studios.

Despite not disclosing whether he has had talks about a later sequel, Hamilton did suggest that if one is made, it should be done with care and quality in mind. He compared the film crew to a motorsport team, emphasising the importance of continuous improvement and working together to achieve the best possible result.

In the film, "F1" depicts a racing driver returning to Formula 1 after a severe accident, and the mentorship between the aging driver and a young pilot adds an emotional depth to the story. As the film continues to resonate with audiences, the question of a sequel remains a topic of discussion, with Hamilton advocating for patience and Kosinski and Apple Studios considering the possibilities.

Other sports could offer a new and exciting direction for the sequel of "F1". Hamilton, recognizing the efforts and sacrifices made in the original production, suggests that approaching a potential sequel with the same dedication and precision as a well-oiled sports team would be essential.
