Flyers edge Stars in OT as Zegras fuels playoff push
The Philadelphia Flyers secured a crucial 2-1 overtime victory against the Dallas Stars on Sunday night. Trevor Zegras netted the decisive goal in extra time, pushing the Flyers closer in the tight playoff race. Travis Konecny opened the scoring for Philadelphia with a power-play goal in the second period. The Flyers held the 1-0 lead until Arttu Hyry equalised for Dallas with a short-handed strike.
Casey DeSmith made 28 saves for the Stars, while Samuel Ersson stopped 17 shots at the other end. Despite Dallas's efforts, Zegras sealed the win in overtime, extending Philadelphia's push for a wild card spot. The Flyers now sit on 86 points, just two behind both Columbus and Pittsburgh in the standings. With 22 games left, they remain in contention for their first playoff appearance since 2020. Earlier, general manager Danny Brière also announced the signing of prospect Porter Martone to a three-year entry-level deal.
The win keeps Philadelphia's playoff hopes alive as they chase the final Eastern Conference wild card position. Zegras's overtime goal marked another strong performance in a season where the Flyers have thrived in extra time, boasting an 8-0-11 record in such games.
