Marie Cullen, head of procurement at Fluence Australia, explains that early engagement and open communication throughout a project's lifecycle help address community concerns and build trust.
At the 1GWh Liddell project, Fluence partnered with Blackrock Industries and AGL to implement the Second Chance for Change Program. This initiative provided education, training, and employment opportunities for incarcerated First Nations men. The program achieved a remarkable 100% employment rate post-program and zero recidivism, demonstrating the value of inclusive procurement. Similarly, at the 600MWh Bulabul Battery 1, Fluence secured a 5% equity stake for the community through a long-term agreement with Wambal Bila, a community-led corporation representing local First Nations interests. This equity arrangement empowers the community to participate in the energy transition, create local employment opportunities, and preserve cultural connection to the land.
