Title: Derek Chauvin, Convicted in George Floyd's Death, Suffers Stabbing Attack in Prison

Derek Chauvin, the ex-cop infamously convicted for the brutal killing of George Floyd, recently surmounted a harrowing ordeal within the confines of his Arizona prison cell. Reportedly, Chauvin sustained serious injuries after being stabbed by an unidentified inmate while in the facility's law library.

The attack, which involved 22 stab wounds via a shank, occurred on November 24, 2023, at FCI Tucson, a medium-security federal prison. Chauvin received immediate medical attention and was subsequently transferred to a local hospital for further examination and treatment.

To offer some context, the racially charged incident leading to Chauvin's conviction occurred in May 2020, as Chauvin mercilessly pressed his knee onto George Floyd's neck, despite his desperate pleas for breath while in police custody in Minneapolis. This led to nationwide outrage against police brutality and racism.

Moreover, Chauvin was sentenced to 22+1/2 years in state prison for second-degree murder and an additional 21 years in federal prison for violating Floyd's civil rights. His combined sentences are to be served concurrently with an eligibility for parole in 2035 or 2036, accompanied by an additional five years of parole upon release.

Despite the April 2021 Supreme Court rejection of his appeal, Chauvin has continued to contest his conviction in various appeals, citing pre-trial publicity and potential civil unrest influencing the jury. Regardless of his ongoing legal battles, Chauvin must now endure this recent act of violence behind bars, as prison authorities intensify his security.
