Florida basketball coach Todd Golden secures a six-year contract extension worth $40.5 million, following their National Championship victory.
Going for Gold in Gainesville ☀️
Florida head coach Todd Golden, the man who guided the Gators to their first national championship since 2007 last month, has agreed to a lucrative six-year contract extension, keeping him in Gainesville through the 2030-31 season.
Golden's new deal places him among the college basketball's elite earners. The Phoenix native was previously making $3 million under his initial contract at Florida, and his two-year extension last March elevated his pay to over $4 million a year. With this fresh agreement, Golden will pocket an impressive $6.75 million annually, making him one of the five top-earning coaches in basketball.
Golden expresses gratitude for Florida and the opportunity to lead the esteemed program: "I'm beyond grateful to become part of Gator Nation. The University [of Florida] is an institution with the resources, support, and people to compete for and win national championships."
Golden replaced Mike White in 2022, following three seasons at San Francisco. After guiding Florida to the NCAA tournament in his second season, he lost to Colorado in the first round. In the past season, Florida secured the SEC tournament title and bagged a top seed in the NCAA tournament, before clinching the national championship game, defeating Houston 65-63.
This historic triumph marked the first men's basketball championship for the Southeastern Conference since Kentucky won in 2012, as well as the youngest head coach to win since Jim Valvano in 1983. Golden also secured a finalist spot for the Naismith Coach of the Year award.
Florida athletic director Scott Stricklin applauds Golden's success: "Todd has proven he's got what it takes to get Florida men's basketball back where it belongs, and he's validated our faith in him in a short span of time."
At the helm of Florida since 2022, Golden boasts a remarkable 133-69 record in six NCAA seasons as a head coach, with 76 wins to only 33 losses while coaching the Gators. 🔥🧡
