New Article:

Angela Suggs, the athletic director at Florida A&M University, found herself in hot water this week. On Monday, she was nabbed by authorities, slapped with two felony charges and four misdemeanors. The charges? Well, it seems she racked up a whopping $24,000 in personal expenses on a corporate credit card at her previous gig.

Suggs, a 55-year-old powerhouse, is staring down grand theft and a scheme to defraud, accompanied by those petty misdemeanors for false claims on travel vouchers. She surrendered to the Leon County Detention Facility on Monday, after a quiet Monday morning.

A $13,500 bond later—snapped up in the afternoon—and Suggs walked free. It was just another cha-ching for the athletic director, who took up the role at FAMU on a three-year, $750,000 contract less than a year ago.

The university, in a statement by interim president Timothy Beard, acknowledged the situation but assured it was unrelated to Suggs' duties at FAMU. They promised a future response, should it be necessary.

Before her tenure at FAMU, Suggs helmed the Florida Sports Foundation (FSF) as its president and CEO. The wheels of justice were set in motion back in November 2024, following an audit of Suggs' business credit card transactions. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) dug up some dirt, revealing Suggs had been using the FSF-issued credit card for personal pleasures like casino visits, cash withdrawals, and wire transfers, totaling an eye-popping $24,000. To add insult to injury, she went as far as coding these personal charges as "meals" on travel vouchers.

When probed about these unauthorized charges, Suggs played coy, claiming some were for business meals and others were unwittingly charged to the business card. Yet, she failed to fully reimburse the foundation for her personal spending spree.
