Spilling the Beans: Florian Wirtz Clarifies Liverpool Rumors and More!

Florian Wirtz publically debunks extravagant T-shirt speculations.

Florian Wirtz, Germany's dynamic soccer sensation, sets the record straight on the lingering FC Liverpool jersey number rumors. In an Instagram post, Wirtz, 22, quashed any speculation about yearning for the legendary number 10 jersey.

"Not me! I ain't after no one's number. Got respect for the players," Wirtz wrote, accompanied by a clown emoji. His fiery statements followed recent reports that suggested he'd expressed an interest in sporting the iconic number 10 jersey at Liverpool, currently donned by Argentine World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister.

A Midfielder of Many Talents

With the Reds since the summer of 2023, Wirtz currently possesses a contract extending until June 30, 2028[5]. Nevertheless, the number 10 jersey holds a special sentimental value in football, representing players like Liverpool great Michael Owen and Sadio Mané.

The Silent Battle for Wirtz

Negotiations between Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen have yet to reach a compromise. According to "Kicker," the Bundesliga club has rejected Liverpool's second offer, an amount worth 118 million euros plus 12 million euros in bonus payments[1]. The initial offer from Liverpool was rumored to be 100 million euros plus 15 million euros in additional payments.

The Leverkusen executives aspire to exceed the 150 million euros minimum sum previously mentioned by general manager Fernando Carro[1]. Tonight, Wirtz will grace the field in Munich with the national team, competing against Portugal in the Nations League semi-final (9 pm/ZDF, Dazn). In the German national team, he wears the number 17.

Joachim Löw's Surprised Musings

Wirtz's impending English Premier League move ignites a wave of curiosity in the world of football. "Wirtz has no limits – he's absolutely ready for the next level. I thought he’d choose Real Madrid if he opted to leave Germany," former national coach Joachim Löw shared with "Sport Bild."

Löw attributed Wirtz's growth to the relationship between Wirtz and Xabi Alonso, the new coach of Real Madrid. Both had achieved great success at Leverkusen before. Löw believes Wirtz will thrive under Alonso's tutelage. However, the jersey number debate is merely a minor issue compared to bigger challenges he'll face at Liverpool. After all, the number won't win him any matches!
