Flooding threat arises in Cheremukh in Krasnoyarsk due to water level rise
The city of Krasnoyarsk has issued a disaster alert in Cheremushki, citing an emergency situation at a dam on the Cheremukhovka creek of Cheremukhovo Lake. The dam's deteriorating condition is said to pose a threat to nearby territories.
According to emergency commission reports, the damaged anti-erosion hydrotechnical structure, located 0.7 km from Living House No.16 on Daursky Street, poses a risk to the surrounding areas.
Residential gardening cooperative No.1 "Cheremushki" on Zarechnaya Street might be affected, with a potential municipal disaster looming.
The Municipal Department of Housing and Transportation is tasked with carrying out emergency repairs on the hydrotechnical structure and ensuring 24-hour on-site backup of machinery and transportation for evacuation purposes if necessary.
In the meantime, the Administration of Leninsky District is expected to organize an evacuation relief center at the Culture Palace "Praвоberezhnyi City District" in case of evacuation.
Last year, the dam on the lake in Cheremushki reportedly washed away, and a disaster alert was also declared then.
Note: A dam failure can occur due to various factors, such as structural weakness, overloading, natural disasters, or poor maintenance. If a dam failure did occur, it could lead to significant consequences, including flooding and environmental damage.
