Technical Relief Agency (THW) Successfully Concludes Flood Relief Efforts in Wörth am Rhein

In a remarkable display of mutual support, the Technical Relief Agency (THW) deployment forces from across the United States have worked tirelessly to combat the floodwaters in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate town of Wörth am Rhein since Pentecost Monday. The town, which was hit hard by storm "Katinka," has successfully concluded its battle against the floodwaters.

THW President Sabine Lackner commended the exceptional large mutual support of the deployment forces nationwide. The situation in Wörth am Rhein has eased everywhere, marking the end of the deployment site in the town.

On peak days, up to 1,600 THW specialists were working alongside other disaster relief organizations such as fire departments. The THW specialists groups from local associations Bremen-Ost, Hannover/Langenhagen, Göttingen, and Wunstorf were dispatched to aid in the flooding in Wörth am Rhein. They, along with helpers from two other THW state farm associations, pumped muddy water from a 2.6-kilometer-long hose line into a former quarry using high-performance pumps. The water from the creek carrying floodwater was finally pumped into an old arm of the USA using additional pumps.

The THW deployment forces deployed several high-performance pumps that drained 30,000 liters into the Rhine per minute over the entire distance. This relentless effort enabled the town to regain control of the floodwaters.

The THW state farm association of Bremen, Lower Saxony provided support to Wörth am Rhein, repaying help received during the flooding in its own federal states around the turn of the year 2023/24. This mutual aid is a testament to the solidarity within the THW, as help was also received from other state associations during the flooding in Bremen and Lower Saxony.

Between May 17 and May 23, 20XX, approximately 2,600 THW helpers from 120 local THW associations supported alongside fire departments in the flood damage response in Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate. The deployment forces from all eight state associations have been helping the affected people in these regions since May 17.

Michael Matrian, head of the deployment department of the state association's service office in Bremen, Lower Saxony, expressed satisfaction at providing quick and efficient support in the current flooding. The volunteer helpers from the Technical Relief Agency (THW) in the state associations of Bremen, Lower Saxony have ended their deployment in Wörth am Rhein on May 23. Helpers from Bremen and Lower Saxony will return to their home local associations after the final dismantling work tomorrow.

The successful conclusion of the deployment in Wörth am Rhein marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to help the affected regions recover from the floodwaters. The THW continues to stand ready to provide assistance wherever it is needed.
