Floods Continue to Wreak Havoc in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province

Heavy monsoon rains have been causing widespread destruction in Pakistan since late June 2025, with the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa being the hardest hit. A state of emergency has been declared in nine districts following torrential rains and floods between 15 and 19 August, which have resulted in at least 368 fatalities and extensive damage to homes and schools.

The latest reports indicate that the Buner district is currently facing severe flooding and flash floods, with dozens of bodies still buried under mud and rocks. Several villages in the area have been completely destroyed by massive amounts of water, and temporary paths built for access to the area have been destroyed again by the fresh rain.

Rescue operations are ongoing in the Buner district, aimed at finding survivors. Volunteers and hundreds of rescue workers are tirelessly working to locate those trapped by the floodwaters. However, the heavy rain continues to hamper these efforts, causing flooding, rising water levels, and landslides.

The situation is particularly dire as authorities expect heavy rain, flash floods, and flooding to continue until at least Thursday. This forecast has led to fears of further aggravated flood impacts, with more disasters threatened in Pakistan as rain resumed on Monday morning.

The floods have resulted in at least 739 deaths and hundreds injured, with over 2,400 houses damaged or destroyed, and major crop and livestock losses. The Glacier Lake Outburst Flood in Gilgit-Baltistan's Ghizer district on 22 August further worsened the situation, killing at least 10 people and displacing families.

In an effort to combat these disasters, helper Nisar Ahmad is assisting the hardest-hit district of Buner. Heavy machinery is necessary to retrieve bodies buried under mud and rocks, and efforts are being made to procure and deploy such equipment.

As the floods continue to ravage the region, the international community is urged to provide aid and support to the affected areas. The people of Pakistan are in dire need of assistance, and every effort must be made to ensure their safety and well-being during these trying times.
