Flood Alert Level 1 Reached in the Prignitz - Flood warnings issued in Brandenburg as rivers rise after snowmelt and rain
Flood warnings have been issued in Prignitz, northwestern Brandenburg, as rising water levels affect the region. Since Saturday evening, authorities activated Warning Level 1 along the Dömnitz river, with minor flooding now reported in low-lying areas. The situation follows a mix of thawing snow and recent rainfall, pushing river levels above normal thresholds.
The first alert was triggered on Saturday (February 21, 2026) after water levels in the Dömnitz climbed past Warning Level 1. By Friday, the river had already peaked at 2.04 meters at the Hainholz gauge—surpassing the Level 2 threshold—before dropping slightly to 1.85 meters by midday Sunday. No major flooding incidents have been recorded so far.
Monitoring stations in Meyenburg and Pritzwalk also recorded elevated readings, with the Stepenitz and Dömnitz rivers breaching initial warning levels. The flooding remains confined to floodplains and riverside meadows, but forecasts predict further rain on Monday and Tuesday. This could push water levels higher in the coming days.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation as rain approaches. While no severe flooding has occurred yet, the combination of rainfall and melting snow may worsen conditions. Residents in affected areas are advised to stay updated on further alerts.
