Floating Individuals Discovered on the Irtish River
In Semey, a nail-biting situation unfolded as emergency services spotted a drifting boat, 7 km from a local chemical plant. The vessel, with a faulty engine, carried two individuals born in 1990 and 1987, who found themselves in a precarious predicament. Thankfully, the brave rescuers swooped in, snatched the pair from the clutches of the river, and tugged the boat ashore.
The Emergency Situations Department of Akmola Region took the opportunity to remind everyone about the cautionary tales that continue to haunt the rivers of Kazakhstan. Every summer, drowning incidents occur due to irresponsible behaviors like swimming under the influence, neglecting child supervision, and lack of swimming skills.
To steer clear of these perils, the Department urges us to maintain a strong grasp on the basics of water safety. Namely, do not leave children unattended, swim only in designated areas, do not venture beyond buoys, ensure the use of life jackets on watercraft, refrain from diving in unfamiliar waters, and avoid entering the water while under the influence of alcohol.
Adhering to these basic rules can go a long way in ensuring safety and health during the summer season. While it's essential to heed these warnings, it's also crucial to consider the underlying water quality issues that Kazakhstan faces, such as deteriorating wastewater treatment facilities and the potential for contamination from deceased animals, which could contribute to future water crises.
