Flights between UAE and Syria are resumed following the revitalization of aviation relations.
In a significant development, the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced the resumption of air flights between the UAE and the Syrian Arab Republic. This move marks a renewed phase of cooperation in regional aviation and is anticipated to open up new commercial opportunities.
Emirates, the national carrier of the UAE, has resumed flights to Damascus after a gap of nearly 13 years. The first Emirates flight landed on July 16, 2025, with the airline initially operating three weekly flights, set to increase to daily flights from late October. Flydubai, another UAE-based carrier, also resumed direct commercial flights between the two nations in early June 2025, marking a return after more than a decade.
The resumed flights will connect Dubai with Damascus, with Emirates operating three times a week initially, expanding to daily flights from October. Specific flight schedules for Flydubai are yet to be detailed in the latest reports, but it offers direct flights between the UAE and Syria. The flights are served by a Boeing 777-200LR, offering both Business and Economy Class cabins.
The resumption of flights is a significant step in reconnecting Syria with international destinations, supporting trade, tourism, and investment. It also reflects the strengthening of ties between the UAE and Syria. The focus of these efforts is on trade, logistics, and transport sectors.
The move is expected to bolster both passenger and cargo traffic. Joint coordination is underway between relevant authorities to finalize the necessary procedures for restarting flight operations. Further details, such as flight schedules and operating carriers, will be announced upon finalization of procedural arrangements.
The resumption of air flights between the UAE and Syria is part of ongoing efforts to expand bilateral ties. This development is expected to enhance connectivity between the two nations beyond just air travel, contributing to a broader strengthening of their relationship.
