Flight Operations in Munich Back Up and Running

After a chilly snowstorm, Munich's airport runways have been cleared, and regular flights are back in full swing. The local snow-removal crews worked tirelessly throughout the night to restore the airport's operations. Although railroads remain affected by the lingering winter weather, flight operations across the airport have picked up since the early hours of the day.

The airport reopened its runways at 6 a.m., with some restrictions on air traffic. Munich Airport announced this development on their website in the morning, reporting an interruption in operations due to severe winter conditions in Bavaria.

During the previous day, the roads experienced a slight improvement in southern Bavaria, despite sporadic wintry weather throughout the night. Minimal accidents were reported, and there were no fatalities or major injuries. A spokesperson from the Upper Bavaria South Police Headquarters commented, "A few trees fell, but damage was minimal." Lower Bavaria witnessed typical winter-related accidents, and the night in northern Upper Bavaria and Swabia was considerably quieter.

Early Sunday morning, trains were still not operational at Munich Central Station. Deutsche Bahn revealed that services would resume at a later time.

Persisting Cold Weather

Two more days of cold weather loom over Bavaria. According to the German Weather Service, large portions of Bavaria will remain snow-free on Sunday, with only isolated flakes falling. Snowfall is expected in the Alps and eastern low mountain ranges. Temperatures will drop as low as -6°C in some areas, with temperatures as low as -15°C south of the Danube.

Rainfall will be sparse on Monday and Tuesday, with occasional snow lettings falling in some parts of Germany. By Sunday, lower Saxony and the regions between the Ore Mountains and Harz Mountains may witness some snowfall. Rain will continue across the west and southwest, posing a risk of black ice.

Saturday's Winter Weather Paralyzes Parts of Bavaria

Snow and black ice caused numerous accidents on the highways across Bavaria last Saturday, leading to extensive traffic jams. Munich and Memmingen airports were forced to briefly suspend flights, and numerous rail routes saw no trains in operation. Travelers were forced to spend the night in trains in Ulm and Munich on Saturday night. The soccer game between FC Bayern Munich and 1. FC Union Berlin had to be canceled.

Munich Airport's Website Reveals Restrictions

The Munich Airport website mentioned air traffic restrictions due to the severe winter weather conditions in Bavaria. Regardless of the resumed operations, the International Weather Service has forecasted continuing cold temperatures with minimal snowfall in Munich for the upcoming days.
