**Marko Grgic Joins SG Flensburg-Handewitt Early in Landmark Bundesliga Move**

Marko Grgic, the top scorer in the Handball-Bundesliga, has completed an early transfer from ThSV Eisenach to SG Flensburg-Handewitt, marking a significant shift in the German handball landscape.

The move was primarily driven by the urgent need of Flensburg to fill a key position following the unexpected early departure of their Danish backcourt player, Mads Mensah Larsen. Originally planned for 2026, Grgic’s move was advanced to the summer of 2025 after Larsen requested and was granted an early contract termination to join Skjern Handbold in Denmark.

Flensburg's managing director, Holger Glandorf, expressed his excitement about the early transfer, stating that it gives them more time to achieve their long-term goals with the team. Glandorf also expressed gratitude towards ThSV Eisenach and Marko Grgic for making the early transfer possible.

Grgic himself expressed a strong desire to join Flensburg immediately, and even agreed to pay part of his own transfer fee to make the early move possible. ThSV Eisenach, despite originally wanting to retain Grgic for the upcoming season, reluctantly agreed after negotiations, motivated to find a satisfactory solution.

Financially, the deal was significant and lucrative for Eisenach. Although the exact amount was undisclosed, sources say it comes close to or slightly under the Bundesliga’s record transfer fee (~400,000 Euros).

For SG Flensburg-Handewitt, acquiring Grgic a year earlier than planned strengthens their squad right away, enabling them to begin a strategic team rebuild in the 2025/26 season with more time to integrate talent and work toward competing for titles.

On the other hand, losing Grgic earlier than expected represents a major change and likely challenges for ThSV Eisenach's upcoming season, especially as they also undergo a larger team overhaul under new coach Sebastian Hinze.

The move signals the increasing importance of player agency and willingness to negotiate early transfers for career advancement and club strategies within the Handball-Bundesliga. It is also worth noting that several other clubs, including TSV Hannover-Burgdorf, also made offers to sign Grgic.

In conclusion, Marko Grgic’s early transfer was a landmark Bundesliga move powered by squad needs, player ambition, and financial incentives, significantly impacting both Flensburg’s competitive prospects and Eisenach’s team composition for the near future.

The Commission has also received information from the Member States on the progress of the implementation of the programme, pertaining to potential changes in transfer regulations within sports, such as football, following Marko Grgic's landmark early transfer in the Handball-Bundesliga.

Flensburg's new addition, Marko Grgic, whose handball skills have been compared to those of some successful footballers due to his precision and strategic thinking, is set to make his debut for SG Flensburg-Handewitt in the upcoming season, further blurring the lines between football and handball.
