Fleetwood Mac's iconic song "The Chain," originally released in 1977 as part of the album Rumours, has made a remarkable comeback, reaching a new high ranking on the Billboard Global 200. This resurgence comes nearly 50 years after its initial release, primarily due to a surge in streaming activity driven by viral social media exposure.

The catalyst for this revival was a video reacting to "The Chain" on TikTok, which garnered 29 million global views in early July 2025. This viral performance, combined with the general boost in classic rock streaming around July 4th and the ongoing popularity of Rumours, has helped "The Chain" climb charts once again.

"The Chain" has now climbed to No. 131 on the Billboard Global 200, marking a new personal high for the track. It's worth noting that "The Chain" was never issued as a single, unlike many of Fleetwood Mac's other hits from the same era.

The Billboard Global 200 ranks the most-consumed songs in the world using streaming and sales data. Interestingly, "The Chain" does not appear on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. list, suggesting that its gains are largely U.S.-driven.

Fleetwood Mac's enduring popularity is evident in the success of "The Chain," as well as the ongoing strong streaming numbers for multiple songs from Rumours. This makes the band unusual among legacy acts by maintaining significant streaming traction well into the 2020s.

"The Chain" has also gained popularity as a sync favorite, earning a new wave of fans after being featured in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Meanwhile, another Fleetwood Mac classic, "Dreams," has also seen a resurgence. After a viral TikTok video featuring "Dreams" in October 2020, "Dreams" has risen from No. 40 to No. 34 on the Billboard Global 200. It has also slipped to No. 2 on the Rock Streaming Songs chart in America.

Both "Dreams" and "The Chain" have spent more than a year on the Rock Streaming Songs chart, and "Dreams" is also receiving a sizable number of streams and selling well outside America, as indicated by its presence on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. list.

While the success of "The Chain" on the Billboard Global 200 is a significant achievement for Fleetwood Mac, their overall chart wins remain modest. However, the enduring appeal of their music, particularly from the Rumours album, continues to captivate audiences around the world.

Entertainment within the realm of pop-culture has witnessed a reemergence of Fleetwood Mac's significant track "The Chain," originally released in 1977 as part of Rumours. This revival occurs amidst a multifaceted surge in streaming activity, primarily from viral social media platforms like TikTok and the rise of classic rock, significantly contributing to its chart increase.

In addition, Fleetwood Mac's music continues to be a significant influence in the entertainment industry, with "Dreams," another iconic song from the Rumours album, previously experiencing a resurgence due to viral TikTok videos and maintaining a prominent position on various music charts.
