Flash flooding shuts down I-75 in Clayton County amid Georgia storms

Parts of Interstate 75 northbound in Clayton County were shut down on Saturday night due to flash flooding, causing travel disruptions. The closure was one of several impacts from heavy rain and storms that moved through metro Atlanta and north Georgia.

The flooding occurred near the intersection of Interstate 285 at Mile Marker 238, with lanes closed from around 4 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. Motorists were advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes. Meanwhile, the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) worked to clear the roadway and restore traffic flow.

In addition to the flooding, the region experienced strong winds and cold temperatures. Wind gusts of up to 45 mph were recorded, and wind chills are expected to drop into the upper 20s and low 30s on Monday and Tuesday. While no significant snow accumulation is expected in the Georgia-North Carolina mountains, a few flurries or light snow showers are possible.

The closure of Interstate 75 northbound has since been lifted, and traffic has resumed as normal. Motorists are advised to remain cautious and check weather updates before traveling, as more strong winds and cold temperatures are expected in the coming days.
