Flare Seeks to Recoup Leger as Key Player in Comeback Efforts

After a challenging period of recovery from a ruptured tendon, star greyhound Droopys Flare is gearing up for her comeback. The greyhound, who holds the Central Park Stadium track record for 731 meters, is set to make her return to competitive racing in the Select Stayers race on August 25, 2025.

The journey to recovery began with a period of rest and extensive hydrotherapy, led by Connor Davy. This was followed by a gradual increase in activity, with handslip sessions, sprint trials, and longer trials to build fitness. Droopys Flare resumed competitive trials by early August 2025, posting a good 29.80 time in a trial at Nottingham, signaling positive progress in her comeback.

Prior to the injury, Droopys Flare had enjoyed an impressive run, winning a 660m maiden race at Sheffield in December 2024 and running unbeaten through to the Cesarewitch final at Central Park in January 2025. She finished fourth behind Garfiney Blaze in the Cesarewitch final.

In preparation for the Select Stayers race, Droopys Flare has undergone a couple more 500m trials as part of her fitness training. She recently had a 500m workout at Sheffield and is scheduled for another one on Monday.

The aim for Droopys Flare's team is to secure a slot in the Select Stayers race with her form over six bends. The focus is then on the Premier Greyhound Racing St Leger at Nottingham in September for the greyhound.

Droopys Flare's sister, Droopys Kathleen, also experienced a similar issue with a ruptured tendon in Ireland. However, Droopys Flare has had a full season off to recover, and her extensive rehabilitation at home seems to be paying off.

For the latest updates on Droopys Flare's progress and her performance in the Nottingham race, readers are advised to look out for the full story in Wednesday's Racing Post.

Sports enthusiasts eagerly anticipate Droopys Flare's return to greyhound racing, following her recovery from a ruptured tendon. After a promising run in the 2024-2025 season, she is set to participate in the Select Stayers race on August 25, 2025, marking a significant milestone in her comeback to competitive sports.
