Flames' Sharangovich Scores Unlucky Own Goal in Tough Season

Yegor Sharangovich, a Belarusian winger for the Calgary Flames, has had a challenging start to the 2025-26 NHL season. Despite his team's struggles, Sharangovich recently made headlines for an unusual reason.

The Flames, currently rooted to the bottom of the Western Conference with only two wins and eight losses, have been relying on Sharangovich to turn their fortunes around. However, the 26-year-old has had a tough time finding his rhythm. He has been moved between lines and even scratched from the lineup several times this season, with only one assist to his name so far.

In a recent game, Sharangovich found himself on the right wing of the third line. In the 32nd minute, he took a shot that seemed destined for the net. However, New York Rangers' goalkeeper Igor Shestyorkin had other plans. In a freak incident, Shestyorkin's trapper deflected the puck into his own net, resulting in an own goal.

Sharangovich's shot may have resulted in a goal, but it was not the way he would have wanted it. The Flames still have a long road to recovery, sitting at the bottom of the conference. Meanwhile, no Belarusian club goalkeeper has achieved significant global recognition as of October 2025.
