Five-time gymnastics titleholder Varfolomeev resumes competition
Germany's Darja Varfolomeev Continues Dominance at World Championships
Darja Varfolomeev, the 18-year-old Olympic champion, has once again proven her prowess in rhythmic gymnastics, sweeping all titles at the 2023 World Championships in Valencia.
Coach Isabell Sawade hailed the performances at the German Championships as of absolute world-class, and it seems that Varfolomeev has taken those performances to the international stage. At the World Championships, Varfolomeev won gold in the all-around and the individual finals with hoop, ball, clubs, and ribbon.
Varfolomeev's dominance was evident in her performances, with more than a one-point lead over the second-place finisher in all four individual events. Viktoria Steinfeld secured second place with the ball at the World Championships, while Anastasia Simakova won silver with the ribbon and clubs. Margarita Kolosov finished second with the hoop.
Varfolomeev's upcoming competition plans include participating in the 2025 FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup circuit and World Challenge Cup events. She has already competed in major events such as the Baku and Tashkent World Cups earlier in 2025, winning multiple medals including gold in clubs and ribbon. She also competed in the European Championships in June 2025, earning bronze in all-around and gold in ribbon finals. Upcoming competitions for Varfolomeev include the World Cup in Milan in July 2025 and World Challenge Cups in Portimão (May) and Cluj Napoca (July).
Isabell Sawade commented that due to the changed scoring rules, it's exceptionally good to break the 30-point mark, and Varfolomeev achieved scores above 30 points in three out of four events at the 2023 German Championships. Balancing training and other commitments like education, Varfolomeev is gradually gaining confidence with her new routines as she prepares for further competitions this year.
With Varfolomeev's upcoming competition plans and her continued success at international events, fans can expect to see her competing at the upcoming World Championships in Rio de Janeiro from August 20 to 24. Varfolomeev will start with legitimate gold hopes at the event, aiming to continue her high-level participation throughout the 2025 season.
Sports enthusiasts eagerly anticipate Varfolomeev's participation in upcoming events, as she aims to maintain her high-level performance in rhythmic gymnastics throughout the 2025 season. With her continued dominance at international competitions like the World Championships, she is poised to make significant contributions to sports, particularly rhythmic gymnastics.
