Five soldiers encounter gunfire at Fort Stewart, resulting in hospitalization, with the perpetrator now in custody.

At Fort Stewart, Georgia, on August 6, 2025, a shooting incident left five soldiers injured. The shooter, identified as Sgt. Quornelius Radford, has been apprehended and the victims are reported to be in stable condition and expected to recover.

The incident took place in the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area of the fort around 10:56 a.m. The base went into lockdown shortly thereafter, but was lifted by 12:10 p.m. for the main cantonment area, with the 2nd ABCT complex still on lockdown.

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear. Radford’s victims were his coworkers, and the event took place at his workplace. The circumstances surrounding how Radford brought a personal handgun onto the military base are yet to be clarified, as legal restrictions exist regarding carrying personal firearms on base.

Other soldiers on the scene intervened and stopped the shooter, preventing further casualties. These brave individuals have been recognized for their actions.

Governor Brian Kemp of Georgia expressed his sadness over the tragedy and asked Georgians to keep the victims and their families in their prayers. Fort Stewart, associated with Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, is home to more than 10,000 people, including soldiers, family members, and Army civilian employees.
