A vibrant REWE store is set to debut in the refurbished Karstadt building's basement, with an anticipated opening on December 1st, despite ongoing construction. This historic site in Leipzig will transform into a bustling work-life quarter, boasting retail, dining, and office spaces spanning over 10,000 square meters.

The revitalized space will house shops and eateries on the basement and ground floors. Above, offices will encircle the now-transparent atrium, offering a captivating view.

While the iconic fountain will again bubble next year, other exciting features like a rooftop garden for events and golden metal ceilings across the public areas await.

The sprawling REWE supermarket alone occupies 17,000 square meters, equivalent to the Connewitzer Kreuz supermarket. Matthias Härzschel, the passionate sports manager turned store manager, shares, "I've transitioned from managing a sports agency to overseeing REWE stores, thanks to the opportunity presented by Covid-19."

The entrance is accessible via Petersstraße, with Neumarkt access soon to follow. However, the remainder of the building will remain closed upon the store's opening.

The Leopzig Regional News reports that the local community can look forward to a diverse range of regional products, including Wermsdorf fish and Teutschenthal meat, after the grand opening on December 1st.

Matthias Härzschel, the eager store manager, has already gathered a team of 55 employees, including former Karstadt employees, ready to embark on this new venture. As always, REWE strives to support local businesses and promote regional products in its stores.
