The third season of Apple TV+'s acclaimed series, Foundation, premiered on July 11, 2025. With new episodes released weekly on Fridays, this season promises to be as large-scale and epic as its predecessors.

The new season introduces a major antagonist, The Mule, played by Pilou Asbæk, who was introduced in season two as a shadowy future promise. This telepathic mutant disrupts the Galactic Empire and the Foundation project, intensifying conflicts as the Foundation seeks to save humanity and rebuild civilization amid the empire's fall.

The series continues to explore the strained rule of the Galactic Empire's Cleons as their grip weakens for the first time. The storyline also features a significant time jump and reintroduces key characters like Doctor Seldon, with episodes focusing on pivotal events such as the Foundation coming under threat from The Mule’s forces.

Episodes have titles such as "The Shape of Time" (Episode 6) and "Skin in the Game" (Episode 8), demonstrating a mix of philosophical and action-driven themes that align with Isaac Asimov’s classic novels on which the series is based. The show remains critically acclaimed and retains a narrative focus on the struggle for survival and the fate of civilization in a collapsing empire.

New characters in season three include Cherry Jones, Brandon P. Bell, Synnøve Karlsen, Cody Fern, Tómas Lemarquis, Alexander Siddig, and Troy Kotsur. Jared Harris stars as Hari, Lou Llobell as Gaal, and Lee Pace as the middle-aged Cleon, while Laura Birn plays the crafty android Demerzel, and Cassian Bilton and Terrence Mann play the younger and older Cleons, respectively.

David S. Goyer is still involved with the series but is no longer the showrunner for season three. The final episode of season three will be released on September 12. The entire season will be available on Apple TV+.

Pilou Asbæk, known for his role in Game of Thrones, is considered 'perfect' for his role as 'The Mule'. Rowena King returns as the legendary mathematician Kalle in season three. The episodes of season three will be released weekly, starting from July 11.
